Media reports often cover stories that generalize Muslims from a negative light, instead of how Muslims function collectively and peacefully with the other community members (Wahyuddin and Hanafi, 2016). The marginalization of Muslims in America is very widespread and disturbing. The Muslim American community continues to be exploited by many media outlets creating a significant gap in understanding the Muslim American experience. These experiences that include being treated with lesser courtesy and getting poor services are what almost 61% of Muslim Americans are experiencing every day in the United States.
Being a Muslim is not a crime. While the government talks about freedom of worship and religion, it does not apply practically for Muslims. Many Muslim Americans are afraid of practicing their religion for fear of being marginalized and discriminated against, and that is not right.
